C7 Community engagement through class blogs

Every class has a blog at our school. The main purposes is to engage and inform the community of events, notices and learning and to provide learning opportunities for students.  I am happy that I have helped path the way for very class having a blog as I co-constructed the school guidelines for class blogs.

My use of class blogs is still developing and this year I have refined the class blog to be simply a celebration of the learning that has happened and for class and school notices. I want the use to be purposeful so the target audience (whanau) are sure in the content is for them. I want them to be excited and informed by what they see on the blog. I know many of my student's whanau are accessing the blog regularly to keep in touch with what is happening in class.

Below is a screenshot from ERO's publication Educationally powerful connections with parents and whanau.

Please note that the class blog is also owned by the students so there are many posts from them. These posts are authentic so may contain inaccuracies and mistakes. The learning opportunities outweigh the need for perfect grammar and spelling.
