A11 Learner Agency

Nick Rate references Learner Agency as more that just giving student choices during their learning. It is empowering them to reflect and choose learning pathways based on what will enable them to succeed, own the learning and to develop positive habits of life-long learners.

Below is evidence of Learner Agency in action in my class. Students reflecting on their learning through assessment for learning opportunities.
Year 6 student teaching a Year 5 student to self assess and identify next learning steps.

Student self assessing against a SOLO rubric to identify his next learning steps.
The students co-constructed the SOLO rubric for self assessing their blog posts.
The SOLO rubric for student blog posts is available for students to use on our Class learning site.

The video below demonstrates how students are aware of their learning pathways and actively refer to them during lessons.
